How Does Talent Turn Into Success?

Talent can be loosely defined as a natural skill or a skill that you are essentially born with. Although talent can certainly grow your skill much faster than the average person, we still need to consider that sole talent isn’t actually what governs “skill.” Everyday, people are born with talent in certain activities and absolutely none in others. In order to develop a skill without the assistance of talent, tremendous effort must be put in to perfect it. Does that mean that talent can’t turn into success? Absolutely not. Effort plays an enormous factor in determining the outcome of talent.

First, it is absolutely essential to combine effort with talent in order to achieve success. As mentioned, talent is a natural gift. Individuals who are born with talent in a certain field are likely to excel and progress much faster than others who don’t have talent in that particular field. In addition, they will probably need to put in considerably less effort to achieve the same results. It really seems like people born with talent just are intangible compared to those who aren’t. Wrong, because effort plays a major factor in determining future success. Effort can be defined as an attempt with determination or hard work. Success reliant on sole talent is basically equivalent to grass without water. Although people who are talented may start out to be much better at completing a task, those who put in the effort, countless hours of blood, sweat, and tears in order to perfect their skills, will without a doubt surpass the talented person. Effort is essential to success and just as important in developing a skill.

In contrast, we should also consider what really happens when talent isn’t paired with effort. A straightforward answer is “nothing.” That doesn’t mean that not putting effort will allow you to just continue to progress without progress. It simply means that not putting in effort will result in no progress in the slightest. Think about it carefully. Say you have a talent of multiplying numbers quickly in your head. As soon as you realize you have this talent, you stop because you’re already ahead of everybody. As you continue to remain idle, your peers are constantly practicing and improving their skills. Your skills will eventually start to rust, while your peers, who continued to practice, improved drastically. That is the key difference in putting in effort with talent and just having talent.

Clearly, a lack of talent can still result in success. In reality, most people will put in at least “some” effort, but those who can put in an immense amount of effort regardless of whether or not they possess talent or not will surely achieve their goals in the future. Talent is something that most people are actually born with. People may not be born with the same talent which is why there are people who strive to maximize effort, in hopes of achieving great results\ in areas where they weren’t blessed. Minimal effort is what leaves most people in the streets while maximum effort is usually what brings us to stardom.
